Chapter 2
"I Can do it!" What a great attitude, and yes, I agree that we should foster this in our students. All teachers should be respectful, kind, and encouraging, while keeping their high expectations and treating all children equally. It is sad, once again, to think that this might not be the norm in classrooms across our country. The emphasis on writing and the power it has helps me to understand better why my son did this so much last year in kindergarten. And I'm glad he did. I think that this is a wonderful skill, and we haven't paid enough attention to it in the past. And it seems to be a smart way to teach reading as well. Makes sense! Yes, the celebration idea is great too, especially with children who are struggling and don't have much self confidence. And making it specific is important. I'm going to try to do more of that at home too. "Noticing what's done well can change a child's life." We knew it already: teachers are so important! Wish everyone else realized that!
