Chapter Seven
As a new teacher, the idea of school-wide coaching would be a great benefit to me. I think it would be great to get feedback and assistance from my colleagues. It would be especially helpful coming from my colleagues because, they are people whom you trust and feel comfortable confiding in. Though I am not ready to be a coach myself, I would love to have the support of other teachers to help me become the best educator I can be.

Felicia...this is for you....I would like to address the quote from Darcy Ballentine on pg 113, "Applying the learning model to coaching may seem simple, but when I was caught up in the day to day survival of coaching, I lost sight of how to give a teacher the support he needed without taking over for him. When I slowed down, and added the shared piece, I was far more successful." ...Felicia...you have natural instinct that I detect just from hearing your contribution in class...you will undoubted be and excellent teacher and eventually a coach. Accept all the help you can when you can, even if it feels like a veteran teacher is taking over. When we get into the calendar of the school year, especially in those beginning years, you and others around you go into survival mode. Grasp everything you can, knowing that "Teacher" is earned over time and experience. I would like to add to the above quote, that new teachers sometimes benefit more from their mentor taking over so they can see what the pace and expectation is all about....middle experienced teachers can contribute and share with guidance, while the us old timers benefit the most from total collegiality.
